In Arizona, your County Attorney plays a vital role in both public safety, as the primary felony prosecutor for the County, and in protecting the county's interests, as the legal advisor to all county departments.
Currently, Kent Volkmer sits as a Council Member on the Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council, as well as the Chair of its Rules Committee. He is the appointed Vice Chair on the Arizona Auto Theft Authority. Kent is an active member of the Arizona County Attorneys Association, where he acts as the Legislative Liaison for the group. He is also a current or former member of the following Arizona Supreme Court Committees: Post Conviction Actions Task Force, Juvenile Rules Task Force, Issuing Search Warrants Task Force, and the Commission on Victims in the Courts. Having previously served as the President of the Arizona County Attorneys and Sheriffs Association and Pinal County Bar Association, he maintains an active presence in both. Further, Kent sits as a Board Member for the Pinal County Law Enforcement Association and is the 2ndVice-President of the Arizona Association of Counties. Currently, Kent is the Pinal County Wellness Alliance Chair and a member of ACUF's Nolan Center for Justice Prosecutors & Law Enforcement Advisory Council. He is also a Co-Chair on the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office Pinal County Reentry Executive Committee and a member of the Arizona State Bar’s Attorney Discipline and Probable Cause Committee. At the local criminal justice level, Kent is an active participant in the Pinal County’s Criminal Justice Coordinating Committee and Specialty Courts Coordinating Committees. When he is not busy with his professional commitments, he enjoys spending time travelling and exploring the outdoors with his wife and three sons, as well as volunteering as his boys’ basketball coach.
After starting out as an associate attorney in a small-town general practice law firm in Casa Grande and then founding a local multi-partner law firm, Kent Volkmer was elected as the Pinal County Attorney almost 8 years ago. In his time as County Attorney, Pinal County has experienced a substantial reduction in the number of people placed in jail and sentenced to prison, while simultaneously seeing a dramatic reduction in crime in the community. Collaborating with local law enforcement to prioritize public safety, his office has focused on putting violent people in prison and creating a pathway to redemption and rehabilitation for the rest.
By following his unabashed philosophy of differentiating between dangerous people and dumb decisions and ensuring that consequences are proportionate to the crime, Kent has catapulted into a local and national voice on prosecutorial advocacy and reform. Through his dedication to personal accountability, steadfast advocacy at the state legislature and various roles on local, statewide, and national boards and committees, Kent’s commitment is to community safety and the rule of law.
